Dearest Kay and Cee,

This morning as I stood by the kitchen island lost in mundane thoughts slathering butter and jelly on a slice of wheat bread for your lunch, I felt tiny hand clutch my thigh and a cheek press itself against me. Clutching a pink teapot in your hand you stood there sharing your love without expectations. Looking up at me with big wondrous eyes, a cheeky smile on your face. I put the slice of bread down and scooped you in my arms showering you with kisses. Just like that in the busy-ness of the morning you reminded me yet again how lucky I was.

I felt my heart swell with happiness and love and knew I had to write it down somewhere. Just to remind you and I that when you are fifteen and arguing with me that things were not always like this. There was once a time when you would stop whatever you were doing to come by and give me a hug or a kiss or both. If I laid on the floor you would sit cross-legged over my trunk and pretend you are in a bouncy seat. Each time I changed you, I would rub my nose on your tummy and you would gurgle with laughter. I would tickle you till both of us dissolved in laughter.

These are idyllic times. I am savoring each day for all it is worth knowing that it will not be long before you hate being cuddled. As you march off into the future discovering your identity and independence I will hold on to these precious memories knowing you changed my world just by being in it.
