It is nearly 2:00 in the afternoon and I realize with a start that I have not had a chance to sit down yet. I am not sure what I have been doing so I sit down and actually make a list.
Make coffee
Unload dishwasher
Make eggplant fry
Pressure cook rice
Make almond chutney
Make dosa
Entreat children to eat breakfast
Load dishwasher
Wash unwieldy vessels
Fold and put away three loads of laundry
Start two additional rounds of bed linen
Make spinach kootu
Pressure cook rice
Feed kids
Clear sink
Fold/spread washed bed linen
Grind dosa batter
Prep for Adai batter
Grind Adai batter
While I wait for the batter to be done so I can then wash the grinder and put it away, I realize kids need their shower, I still need to unpack boxes that arrived from Target so I can take school supplies for back to school night.
My back hurts, I feel exhausted and all I want is a nap.
Growing up, I always wondered why my mom always napped in the afternoon. The making of a home is ridiculously exhausting!
