It’s Sunday night and I am catching up on work. As I wait for a batch to finish running, I am looking through my launch day checklist, all the different trackers I have going for the next few days and weeks. If the launch of Why is My Hair Curly? was pure vibes, this feels too analytical.
The joy is muted, present, bubbling below the surface. I catch myself smiling each time I see the cover. I check every other hour to see if the book is available on US channels. It is not. I see it on UK websites and it starts to feel real. I wish I could be in India for this moment, to be able to walk into a bookstore and see it on a display.
I know friends will send me pictures of the book in the wild when they see it. I am waiting on my author copies to come from India so I can hold it in my hand and feel Sarayu come to life.
All of it will have to wait. And, when the book is available here in the US (hopefully soon!), I will be sharing it here and holding a live event.
Today though, the book is out. The physical copies are in bookstores in India. Why is My Skin Brown? is celebrating its birthday. I will cut a cake. I will toast all my brown-skinned babies world over.
You are beautiful. You are amazing. You are enough.
