“Do you still practice astrology?”
I get some version of this question every once in a while and my answer usually is “not anymore” or “no time to do it well”. I enjoy reading charts. I love distilling archetypes from the chart and seeing which parts resonate and those that don’t. The act of reading a chart is one of trust. It is a precious bond between two people.
Over the years, the only thing I tell myself is people don’t turn to astrology for answers, they do it for reassurance. I know it because I am that person.
As part of testing what Claude could do for me, I started with small questions, probing what it knew, how it responded. Most days I was impressed. Some days, I had to push back. Last month, I had the time (sorry kdramas/cdramas!) and I toyed with the idea of building an app. Something tailored for me. I read both Hellenistic and Vedic charts. I love merging techniques across systems. I take note where there is resonance between the two.
Most services I own or subscribe to use one system. There is still no place that does horary the way I was taught to do it. What started out with a simple interface to create my own charts and store the data locally organically grew into a system merging everything I used regularly in one place.
Most days I wake up with a feature request in my head and by end of day, it is a working tab on my app. Technically, I have learnt a lot in the process. That’s a post for another day, the tech stack I used and am using. Things I tried and discarded. The ones I kept. I have copious notes.
As of today, I have an app that runs on my desktop, I can access it through a browser from anywhere in the world. I have an intake form I can share with people to request a reading. This is not something that I will pursue seriously. However, it is there for those who ask me “Do you still practice astrology?”
I do.
