It’s out, the first issue of Literary Namjooning. A few months ago, Hema of Mixed Bag reached out to Melissa and I asking if we would be interested in curating a selection of pieces that centered the act of namjooning.
As ARMY and as someone who has grown to idolize Kim Namjoon, this was right up my alley. The submissions window opened up and the pieces came trickling in, close to a hundred of them. I read the pieces slowly, savoring them and adding cryptic notes to my file. Then, I re-read them.
The three of us took time to review the ones we all liked and the process was exhilarating and excruciating. Hema did the heavy lifting – the creation of the website, the sending of the emails, the selecting of the beautiful images that accompanied each piece and finally uploading it all for the literary universe to enjoy.
As I clicked through each piece this morning after the issue went live, I felt pride and joy. Each piece felt sweeter, slower and, richer reading it as part of a cohesive whole.
If the world around you feels a little too much to bear, if your heart feels like it needs a reprieve, step into our first issue and breathe. Feel the tension leave your body and, sink into the beauty of the slow life.
Namjoon away my friends.
