Miracles happen. They do!
In July this year, a publisher from Red Panda, a children’s imprint of Westland Publishing (an Amazon company) in India reached out through my blog. She asked if I was interested in writing children’s fiction. I hemmed and hawed and eventually jumped at the opportunity. For someone who primarily writes creative nonfiction, this has been a leap of faith, a jump off the cliff moment.

Between July and now, I worked on a proposal and a manuscript. I shaped the story as I walked on my elliptical each day. I wrote at night aiming for a few thousand words each night against a deadline. I worried if the story made sense if my voice was okay if my writing was good. I still worry about all these things. I had a hard time letting go and accepting it will have to be enough. My labor of love is now out of my hands and into the hands of those who will set it free.
The book (working title) “Why Is My Hair Curly?” is aimed at children aged eight to twelve. It features a family with a daughter and a son and one adorable paati. At its heart, it is about acceptance.
I am told the book will launch mid-2020. I am excited and can’t wait to share the book with you all. If you have questions, ask away and I will try my best to answer them.
A humungous thank you to all of you who have validated this journey I am on with your comments, emails, and friendship in real life.
If this moved you, send a tip.
