When it rains, it pours

Last weekend it was UL, this weekend, friends from school. People who knew me from the time when I was a kid literally. People with whom I did not have to worry about making an impression on.

Walking by the Hudson river front or crowding around a table loaded with food, we went back in time to seventh grade and above. Got caught up on the silly juvenile things we said and did. We reminiscenced about our teachers, their eccentricities and their good hearts. Turning the lights off in the wee hours of the morning to grab some shut eye, I felt happy and relaxed like I have not in a long time. For once things like classes, adoption related stresses and life did not get in the way. It was pure, unadulterated joy of sharing. Sharing moments, memories and plans for the future. I felt thrilled I could talk about my past and my future without fear, without being judged.

In all my previous such get-togethers, my expectations of what I wanted out of them came in the way. It had a way of setting me up for disappointment. Not this time. I went without any ideas of what to expect. Went with the flow and realized how nice it was.

So, D and A, if you are reading this, here is a shout out. Thanks a ton! You guys made my weekend.

  1. I know exactly what you mean, when we expect things from ourselves then we forget to enjoy the moment. But as soon as we let go of our own inhabitation’s, then we feel like a great weight (which we put there in the first place) be lifted. It is always good to have get-togethers where all you are going to do is be silly, and not worry about what people will think or say, just be yourself and go with the flow 🙂 I am glad you had a good weekend.

  2. Hi Laksh,

Loved the way you summarized the evening 🙂

It was not that we have been in touch for all these years…. not that we have shared our joys and sorrows thru the years and not that we were best pals in school. Yet, those few hours of chatting and sharing made such a difference. Its these little things that mean a lot in life.

Thanks to D for hosting the evening and to you for making it to NYC just in time. I had an awesome evening….. moments that I will cherish for long 🙂
