As I waited to heat my breakfast in the company kitchen, I was party to a Thanksgiving dinner preparation discussion between two of my co-workers. One person was in favor of frozen turkeys and the other for fresh. They went on to detail their menu and how they were watching carbs. I was fascinated. As much as I don’t eat meat or have not been part of a Thanksgiving meal the whole idea of multiple courses of food made with ingredients native to the north east interests me.

So much so that I looked up, on a whim, the menu for a vegetarian Thanksgiving dinner. It was fun looking through the recipes. As I closed the website I realized as laborious as desi cooking is, I couldn’t imagine a table full of people waiting for the perfect turkey. It would be too much pressure for me to handle.

The concept of Thanksgiving however, is something I would like to make part of my life and have been in some ways over the past years. The crowding of family and friends over a table laden with food, happy times talking and resting from the huge meal. Time to reconnect with people every year. To renew and feel part of a whole.

As I mull what to make for dinner tomorrow, I wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving and a great start to the holiday season.
